There is little public transportation by boat in Cuba, only few places like Havana bay has this service.

Havana bay boats
The purpose of these boats is a faster crossing of the bay to go from Old Havana to the neighborhoods Regla and Casablanca, at the other side of the bay.

  • Old Havana – Regla
  • Old Havana - Casablanca
  • Casablanca - Regla

These boats are part of the local transport system for the local population, so the trips are charged in CUP (Cuban Pesos), at the cost of 20 cents.

Regla and Casablanca have a different atmosphere in comparison to other neighborhoods in Havana city, because of their location at the other side of the bay. The boats are small and simple but we recommend this trip as a chance to experience a different atmosphere in these peculiar neighborhoods.

Catamaran to Isla de la Juventud
This fast boat is leaving everyday at 10:00 and 16:00 from Batabanó (south of Havana province) to Gerona (The main city of Isla de la Juventud), using two hours in the journey. There is a bus service that will carry you from the Central Bus Station in Havana to the harbour in Batabanó. The buses are leaving from the station at 07:00 and 12:00 everyday. Passengers should be at the Central Station half an hour before departure.

The tickets must be bought at least one day before at the Bus Central Station in Havana or at NCC (Cuban Boat Company) office in Batabanó. But  we do not recommend to travel to Batabanó without having already a boat ticket. Tickets can be bought at NCC office located at the side entrance of the Central Bus Station in Havana.

Location of the Central Bus Terminal: Avenida de la Independencia #101 y Calle 19 de Mayo, Havana City.
Tel:  (+537) 700929 / 792456

The local population pays the tickets in CUP (Cuban Pesos) but foreign visitors have to buy tickets in CUC at a higher price.

The desk where you can buy the tickets is open from 7:00 – 12:00 and usually is crowded with people trying to get tickets in CUP, because the demand of  tickets is higher than the available capacity.

Tickets Prices

  • Adults- 50 CUC
  • Child (between 2 and 12 years old) - 25 CUC
  • Child (between 0 and 2 years old) – Free

The bus should be paid when you will get on board and it costs 2.30 CUP per person. You should bring always your passport and money in cash (CUP and CUC).

To travel back from Gerona (Isla de la Juventud), the ticket can be bought at NCC office there.

The buses will carry you from the harbour in Batabanó to the Central Bus Station in Havana.
